DESCRIPTION

Alternator freewheel clutches allow the alternator to free-wheel or overrun every time the engine decelerates and, at the same time, dampen vibrations at the alternator.
Perfectly functioning clutches help avoid jerks and belt slips from torque and significantly extend the life of the alternator. They have an expected life of 100,000km

The most common symptoms of a faulty or failing freewheel clutch are:

Belt vibration
Clicks, whistles and groaning sounds from the alternator
Alternator failure
